DAP’s 5th Birthday: Introducing The New DAP Shopping Cart Plugin

Veena-Ravi

Hey Dappers!

We’re so excited that today is DAP’s 5th birthday!

DAP is our baby, as you know. So we prefer birthday rather than anniversary, and family rather than customers 🙂

DAP was launched back on October 10, 2008. And here we are, 5 years later, still having the same fire in our bellies and hunger in our hearts, to make DAP the best membership plugin on the planet.

We know we’re not there yet, and we’re certainly not done yet, but that really has been our single biggest obsession so far – to take DAP “where no membership plugin has gone before” 🙂

Our birthday gift to you, is the new DAP Shopping Cart plugin, which comes loaded with some really cool new features.

It’s our small way of saying “Thank You!” for the faith and trust you have placed, and continue to place, in DAP.

So please do leave a comment behind at the bottom of this post, as we’re really looking forward to feeling warm-and-fuzzy all day today 🙂

Cheers!

– Veena “DAP Queen” Prashanth & Ravi “DAP Daddy” Jayagopal

When can I download the new DAP Shopping Cart (BETA)?

We are releasing the BETA version today and doing a closed beta with a select group of DAP users who have volunteered. We will notify you via our blog and by email when it’s available for everyone.

What are the requirements for the new DAP Shopping Cart?

1. You need at least one of the following:

a) a Paypal Standard Account, or
b) an Authorize.net merchant account or
c) a Stripe.com account or
d) a Paypal Payments PRO account

2. If you wish to sell subscription-based products, then you also need Automated Recurring Billing (ARB) enabled in your Authorize.net account.

3. If you’re using Authorize.net or Paypal Website Payments Pro or Stripe.com, then you need to have SSL (secure server) enabled on your web site. Please ask your web host to enable SSL/HTTPs for your site. SSL is NOT needed if you allow users to ONLY ‘Checkout with Paypal Standard’ option. It’s ONLY needed if you wish to allow users to enter CC info on the checkout page right on your site.

4. IMPORTANT: You need to be on DAP 4.4.3 & LiveLinks 1.8.3.2

What happens to my existing DAP Shopping Cart?

The NEW Shopping Cart will NOT affect the existing version of DAP cart on your site.

But given the number of files we have updated for the new CART, it’s better you DO NOT apply the BETA version to a LIVE web site. We recommend using it only on sites that are NOT live yet, or on test sites.

So there.. that was our little gift to you on our 5th birthday 🙂

  1. Veena,

    >> Sorry, the invoice number does not use centralized master progressive counter. If you use say Paypal, then PayPal issues a unique transaction ID to uniquely identify the transaction and that becomes the invoice number. <<

Ok, if possible. Can you try to code it in a way so that it's not super hard for us to add some php and hook up a custom master counter? (eg not encrypt the related file).

  2. Happy Birthday Baby! It’s great to be a part of the strong evolution you continue to push forward in DAP!Naturally, this software continues to produce greater market access and reliability because of the customization options for membership site owners and their extended family members. Certainly you are leading the sector of ecommerce software like no one else. Thanks… I love all your Wicked Cool Plugins. You just keep getting better!!!

  3. >> Certainly you are leading the sector of ecommerce software like no one else. Thanks… I love all your Wicked Cool Plugins. << Thanks Jim :). We feel very blessed to have the support of customers like you!

  4. Hi All,

    >>Will the new cart have the possibility to pre-determine when a card is going to expire… either a month, 10 days, or whatever, and send an e-mail to inform the member it is time to update their new expiration date. << Great news! We have added this feature to the DAP cart! We will beta test it and release it to all users by end of this month! This will make the DAP cart even more powerful. Here's what this feature will allow: 1) Configure when (in days) the 'card expiration' emails should be sent to the users. 2) Send multiple email reminders (for ex - 30 days before expiration, 10 days before expiration etc). 3) Reporting - you can find all the users that were sent these emails in the Job Queue 4) Customize the contents of the email. 5) This will work with all purchases via the DAP cart regardless of the gateway (Stripe, Authnet, Paypal Pro). We are very very thankful for the trust and faith our customers have in us and we will continue to work very hard to provide the DAP users with all the tools they need to run their membership sites successfully! The DAP Cart beta testing is going well. We hope to make it final by end of this month. We will keep your posted! Thanks, Veena & Ravi

Wow! That was fast. Glad my little suggestion made it’s way into the cart, even though I’m sure you were headed that way anyway!

    This is great.

  6. I am so happy for you.
You have make a lot of people succeed using DAP.
I hope you have a successful future as well an I wish you and your family the best.
    Regards,
    Lilliam

  7. Veena/Marco – would it not be possible to use the “id” field in the “dap_transactions” table for this as it appears to be a unique, auto-incrementing ID which could be used asn an invoice number?

    Just a suggestion

    Martin

  8. Hi Guys and congrats!

Does the new plugin track customer spend within the Admin panel? In other words, I want to be able to easily see not only what income there is by period but also by customer by period, so can I establish ROIs over different periods of time.

Make sense? Does it do it? Thanks.

  9. Hi Mark,

We have not updated the reporting / tracking. The shopping cart plugin does not have ‘customer by period’ tracking.

    Thanks,
    Veena

  10. Hi Martin,

    >> Veena/Marco – would it not be possible to use the “id” field in the “dap_transactions” table for this as it appears to be a unique, auto-incrementing ID which could be used asn an invoice number?<< The invoice number gets sent to the payment gateway in the API call before the 'dap transaction' gets created. Need a number that's in both dap and in the payment processor for tracking. So using the dap_transactions id as invoice won't work. Thanks, Veena

  11. Some questions please:
Q1: Does DAP work with OptimizePress? Please provide details.
Q2: I have some of my WP sites on Windows and MS SQL Server. Will DAP work on this kind of hosting setup?
Q3: What is your recommendation for a compatible Forum / Bulletin Board system?
Q4: I am a developer and would like to add some of my own features for a niche specific business. Can I tweak the code for portions of DAP?

  12. Hi Peter,

    >>Q1: Does DAP work with OptimizePress?<< Yes. A couple of things to note: See http://DigitalAccessPass.com/documentation/?page=/doc/ugly-links-in-optimizepress/ . Other than that, there are no details to provide - DAP works with OP just like with any other theme. >>Q2: I have some of my WP sites on Windows and MS SQL Server. Will DAP work on this kind of hosting setup?<< Sorry, DAP will not work on a MS SQL Server or on a Windows server. See http://DigitalAccessPass.com/documentation/?page=/doc/minimum-requirements-to-run-dap/ >>Q3: What is your recommendation for a compatible Forum / Bulletin Board system?<< See http://DigitalAccessPass.com/documentation/?page=/doc/forum-integration/ >>Q4: I am a developer and would like to add some of my own features for a niche specific business. Can I tweak the code for portions of DAP?<< We don't recommend editing the core files of DAP, as it may cause errors which we won't be able to troubleshoot and fix for free. We would have to charge you for that. And we may actually not have the time or resources to do so at times, even if you were willing to pay for it. AND you may not know which files you should be editing, and how editing of one file could have a repercussion on many other functions that are using it. So it's not at all recommended, and we wouldn't be able to support your changes, and you would be on your own. Also, you would be locking yourself out of future updates, as any future update will wipe out your changes, and keeping track and back-tracking code to an older version would become a coding nightmare for you. Hope this helps.
